pete puffin book coverAOOS Contributes to Children's Book
on Ocean Currents

AOOS provided financial support for a new children's book, Pete Puffin's Wild Ride, published by Alaska Geographic. AOOS will also provide financial support for distribution of the book to each library and school in Alaska, as well as assist with incorporating the book into curriculum development.

NANOOS Observing Data Contributes to Science Summit

On June 30, US Rep. Norm Dicks (D-OR) will host a Hood Canal Science Summit to hear the results of a 3-year study to assess causes of hypoxia in Hood Canal. Observing data partially supported by NANOOS was instrumental in the study and knowledge gained.

IOOs appropriations update

June 23 | Last week, the House and Senate Committees on Commerce, Justice, and Science marked up the NOAA Appropriations Bills, which included IOOS.  For the first time, the House included numbers above the President's requested amount: $19.5M for Regional IOOS (President requested $14.6M), and $8.0M for Federal IOOS (President requested $6.5M).  The Senate marks were higher, with $30M for Regional IOOS and $8M for Federal IOOS.
